By blocking this enzyme, glufosinate ammonium disrupts ammonia detoxification and amino acid synthesis, causing toxic levels of ammonia to accumulate within plant cells. This accumulation interferes with cellular metabolism and damages cell membrane integrity, leading to leakage of cellular contents and ultimately resulting in plant death.
